Chat with AI is the in-editor AI chat app that helps with your editing and coding tasks. Use it to get help, refactor and generate code, or get quick explanations.

Supported Providers

Chat with AI supports the Anthropic, OpenAI, Deepseek, Google, and LM Studio (OpenAI-compatible) providers. Chat with AI uses the API key from the provider to make API requests directly.

Quick Install

View the help page for installation details and step-by-step instructions. It covers the Desktop Installer and Portable methods as well as LM Studio setup.

An API key is required for Anthropic, OpenAI, Deepseek, or Google providers. You may find Google’s free trial to be the most convenient option.

Why Chat with AI Stands Apart

  • Chat with AI is integrated into EmEditor. You don’t need to open other AI chat apps when EmEditor is already open. There are features like Copy to Editor or tool calling that enables the AI to directly modify your document.
  • Privacy is respected. Chat with AI directly connects to the provider API for AI requests instead of relying on a proxy server. LM Studio support gives you the option to run models locally without internet connection.
  • You will find that using provider APIs is often much cheaper than subscribing to services such as ChatGPT. To give an example of API prices, GPT-5.4 is priced at $2.50 per 1 million input tokens. Subscribing to ChatGPT Plus costs $20.
