This version resolved the issue.
Thank you.
JamilParticipantI installed emed64_22.5.2.msi and emed_help_en_22.1.0.msi to revert to chm help. Local help opens fine with this version.
JamilParticipantHere is a screenshot of the issue and how I reproduced it:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/f6ta40lo064xq7ul3czmd/emeditor_help_issue.png?rlkey=j2y1z2rrr9izuzkf33upi9lgn&dl=0JamilParticipantI will simply bookmark the local help URL within my browser to open manually.
JamilParticipantUse Web Browser within EmEditor to view Help was never checked. Use local help option is selected. EmEditor continues to open local help within the editor. This is the link that I just copied: file:///C:/ProgramData/Emurasoft/EmEditor/Help/en/index.html. It is not using my default browser that would be FIrefox. I have version Version 23.0.908 installed now.
JamilParticipantI installed the preview version to see that local help opens again. Unfortunately, it opens within the EmEditor client that takes real estate from my editing content. It would be helpful if I could undock this help window to make it a floating resizable window. Local help used to do this when I use the editor under Windows 10.
JamilParticipantWhen I click Help|Preference, local help is checked off. It is not being honored.
JamilParticipantSupport for Windows 7 was dropped. You will no longer be able to upgrade to newer versions.
JamilParticipantThank you. This version resolves the issue.
JamilParticipantI removed my youtube video, because I inadvertently left personal content in it. I recreated it moments ago to show the issue:
JamilParticipantMy post above was incorrect. I re-opened a file under version 21.5.0 to see the same issue. It looks like it started with 21.5.0.
JamilParticipantI just downloaded and installed version emed64_21.5.0.msi. This version does not face this issue, so it was newly introduced in version 21.5.1 and higher.
21.5.0 is the highest version I am able to use with no issues. Some changes in version 21.5.1 introduced this.JamilParticipantversion 21.5.1 also shares this same issue. I attempted to update to it to face the same problem. I will again revert to version 21.4.1
JamilParticipantI only own a single computer and no others. This is 64-bit Windows 10 Professional.
I also use emeditor under VMWare Workstation, and this same issue exists under my virtual machines. This would count as a different computer.JamilParticipantI reset setting, allowed emeditor to restart, and the issue was present right after restart.
I used ashampoo uninstaller to perform a full uninstall along with complete registry cleanup.
I reverted to version 21.4.1 to install; however, it won’t install into C:\Program Files as I had always installed it. There is no way to do this now.
I instead installed version emed64_16.4.1.exe to C:\Program Files as I wanted. After that, I launched emed64_21.4.1.msi to upgrade to version 21.4.1.
The issue does not exist under 21.4.1, and it works perfectly as expected.JamilParticipantWatch this video starting at 30+ seconds to clearly see the issue. Installing the older version makes this new issue go away:
JamilParticipantMy point I will make again is that my use case was super simple. Text Pad handled my simple use case with ease.
EmEditor, on the other hand, opened my simple playlist file in an unexpected format that introduced confusion. I realized later why it formatted my playlist the way it did (which was incorrect and does not apply). I gave up and instead used TextPad 8. I performed the operation in about two seconds.
I can guarantee you that I will never have a need to ever do anything with CSV on my home computer.
JamilParticipantMy entire intention on opening this text file was to sort it properly. That was all.
CSV is absolutely useless to me and I have no need for it.
Thank you for sharing how to turn it off.
I actually sorted the files with TextPad 8 that I also have a license for. This opened it as a plain text file and sorting was rather simple using it.
JamilParticipantOkay — I figured out how to do it.
If you have a Unicode file without a BOM, the only way to have EmEditor save with a BOM is to perform a Save As… from the File menu then select the particular encoding from the Save As dialog ensuring with signature is selected. This will write out a new file with a BOM. It’s the only way to do it.
JamilParticipantAll Configuration Properties | File | Saving…
Encoding is set for Configured Encoding.
Add a Unicode Signature (BOM) is checked offHowever, I open a UTF-8 file with no BOM then save it. EmEditor is not writing a BOM.
JamilParticipantThanks, Yutaka.
I just disabled font resizing that will prevent this issue for me in the fuutre.
March 25, 2020 at 12:35 am in reply to: Windows 10 Explorer Right Click Open WIth Shows Two EmEditor Items #26680JamilParticipantI removed one of the duplicated Open With items by performing a full uninstall removing all settings then using Ashampoo Uninstaller version 8 to remove all traces of EmEditor. I rebooted my computer using Ashampoo Uninstaller to log a new install of the latest EmEditor version 19.7.0. Now open with shows a single entry for “EmEditor Try Icon program”.
Too bad I had to lose all settings, but this worked.
JamilParticipantThanks.
I just tried to reproduce it under my Windows 10 VM, but I failed to do so. I have no idea how I managed to encounter this issue. It is possible that this was already fixed at some point in time.
JamilParticipantWhat I suspect happened that caused this issue is that at some point I changed the install location for EmEditor from all users to single user or vice versa. I believe that the option to keep all registry settings then does not update the macros location that resulted in this issue. The question is does it make sense to always update the macro location regardless of the install option to keep all existing settings? If it did always update this, I would never had experienced this issue.
JamilParticipantMy Windows 7 virtual machine does have EmEditor installed under my local account only. It does not have the issue of not finding macros, and this was a new install of only the latest version. Based on this, it seems this was an old issue from an older build on my Windows 10 VM.
It looks like this is no longer an issue.
