Let’s say I’m working on a file named “foo.txt”, I’ve made many changes to it, and I haven’t saved the file. Then I use Find in All Files to search for a word in “*.txt”. Obviously foo.txt is one of them, so it should search the open document window on foo.txt, not the disk-saved file, whose contents are those before my many changes. After all, if I click an EEtag mentioning foo.txt, it would switch to the already-existing foo.txt window, but it will probably go to the wrong line… if it exists!
