Our website scans were completed, and all our websites were clean, including all of our foreign language EmEditor websites as well as Emurasoft Customer Center. This means this English website was not affected by this case.

Nevertheless, as a precaution, we recommend changing your password if you have an account in one of our sites, and please do not share the same password with Emurasoft Customer Center or any other websites.

To prevent future hacker attacks, we have tightened our security level. We no longer accept new members automatically. If you are not a member yet, and if you would like to join our forums, please contact us.

EmEditor foreign language websites attacked by hackers

Dear EmEditor user,

On August 12th, 2014, we discovered traces of malicious code in our Japanese EmEditor home page and Simplified Chinese EmEditor home page. Because of this, we temporarily stopped our websites, and we have been checking and cleaning up the sites. In the Japanese site, there were traces where usernames, passwords, and IP addresses of users might have been compromised.

If you have an account in the Japanese site, it is strongly recommended that you change your password. To change the password, please go to the Forums page and log into your account. After signing in, you will see a menu bar showing at the top of the webpage. Go to the top right corner of the webpage that shows your username and in the drop-down menu click “Edit My Profile” .

Currently, there is no evidence that other language sites including this English site was compromised, and there is no evidence that Emurasoft Customer Center was compromised. However, as a precaution, we strongly recommend changing your password if you have an account in these sites. If you share the same password with other websites, we also recommend changing your passwords with those sites.

We apologize for any inconveniences that this situation might have caused you. We are still scanning other language home pages. We will keep you updated if there are any progresses. Thank you.

32-bit version of installer updated

32-bit version of installer updated

Today, we are replacing the 32-bit version of installer. There was an issue with Custom Install in the 32-bit installer for v14.5.x. The issue was that even if you selected “Custom” and then disabled “Program Shortcuts and Association” features (or any sub features in this folder), these features were actually installed. The new installer fixed this issue. The new file name for the new installer is “emed32_14.5.3a.exe”. The new installer can be downloaded at the Download page.

There are no changes with the 64-bit version of installer nor the portable version, and there are no changes with the actual EmEditor program files. Most customers do not need to update with this fix. However, if you already installed v14.5.x (32-bit) and wish to reinstall EmEditor without “Program Shortcuts and Association” options during install, you could do so by uninstalling existing EmEditor first, and then reinstall EmEditor by using the new installer.

The Next version of EmEditor will enhance the CSV support!

The Next version of EmEditor (v14.6) will enhance the CSV support (including separated values such as TSV and DSV). We are glad to hear that more customers use EmEditor to analyze big data these days. We would like to hear what features should be included to make EmEditor more useful to edit very large CSV files.

  • The Find in Files feature now shows the Progress Bar.
    When starting Find in Files, EmEditor will first count the number of files in the specified folder (and the sub folders if specified), so it might look a several-second pause before searching. If you prefer the previous behavior, in the Registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EmSoft\EmEditor v3\Common,
    you can create a new DWORD value called “GrepCountFiles” and set the value to 0.

Today, we are releasing EmEditor v14.5.0.
Updates from v14.4.4 include:

New Features

  • The Synchronize Outline Bar and Outline Guide command. This will synchronize the expand/collapse status of both the Outline Bar and the Outline Guide.
  • The expand/collapse status of the outline guide and the outline bar tree will be retained when you switch documents, drag and drop the items on the outline bar tree, drag and drop the selected text to move or copy.
  • Even when EmEditor is operated under the CSV/TSV mode or the outlining mode, the cursor position and selection will not be altered so that the overall behavior will be more accurate.
  • The improved Update Checker allows less clicks to update EmEditor to future versions.
  • Further optimized code allows smaller executables despite of improved features.

New options

  • The Max level and Initially drop-down list boxes were added to the Outline tab of configuration properties.
