EmFTP is a lightweight, fast, easy-to-use FTP client for Windows.
If you still need to download, you can click here for EmFTP Professional 32-bit (v2.02.2) or 64-bit (v2.03RC) or EmFTP Standard (v2.02.2). Supported OS: Windows 7/Vista/2003/XP/2000.
Vulnerability Notes
EmFTP contains a flaw when loading files (in the local pane), where an unitended executable file may be loaded when attempting to open a file without an extension. For example, if a text file named “example” (without an extension) and an executable “example.exe” are in the same directory, attempting to open the file “example” will result in the execution of “example.exe”. When opening local files, do not use EmFTP. Use Run command or Windows Explorer.
Features
SFTP support (EmFTP Professional only)
EmFTP Professional supports SFTP using SSH (Secure Shell). The traditional FTP sends passwords and file contents without encrypting, arising potential danger that your passwords and file contents can be hacked. SFTP encrypts passwords and file contents so it is more secure. SFTP features such as compression and public key authentication are also available. Many colleges, universities, laboratories and companies already require or recommend using SFTP in place of FTP. To protect from hacking, demands for SFTP are still rising.
Quick Connect Bar (EmFTP Professional only)
Quick Connect Bar in Toolbars allows you to connect to a server by specifying only URL. The Quick Connect Bar can be switched between a simple mode and a detail mode with username, password, and other options.
Filter Feature (EmFTP Professional only)
The filter feature allows you to transfer only files with a specific type. A filter can be specified in the Filter Bar on Toolbars. For instance, specifying “*.htm” will transfer only files with the extension htm. Using this feature, you can display or transfer only necessary files.
FTP Fast Transfer Using Multiple Threads
When downloading files with FTP, the client send a signal every time it receives a certain size of a block. The server sends the next block when it receives the signal from the client. There is an interval between the time the server receives the signal and the time it sends the next block depending on the load. A file transfer by FTP consists of the repetition of this operation, the transfer speed can be slower than ideal speed. Since EmFTP can use multiple threads to send multiple files at once, it is possible to transfer a file while another thread is at idle. Thus EmFTP can transfer faster than traditional FTP client software using a single thread. Depending of the number of files, file types, server, and the number of threads, EmFTP can transfer several times as fast as one that uses a single thread.
Permission Change and Automatic Permission Settings
EmFTP can set file permissions of the Server (Some servers do not allow permission change). There is also a feature that can automatically set the permissions when a file is transferred. Moreover, you can specify file types for which permission change is enabled, and you can specify folder permissions when a new folder is created.
Explorer-like Look and Feel
Since EmFTP has an Explorer-like look and feel, it is easy to start using EmFTP. Folder view can be switched from large icons, list, and details. You can copy and move files easily by dragging and dropping files or via the Clipboard. You can also copy or move files within the server.
Robust and Responsive Operation
In EmFTP development, the highest priority is that a user’s experience with EmFTP. Throughout the application, the user-interface thread is always separate from the worker threads. The application window are always responsive and never been frozen. During a file transfer, if another file transfer is commanded, that command will be in the internal queue, and it will be executed sequentially. We developed a terminal application program called EmTerm, and that experience was utilized in this program.
Synchronize Upload
The Synchronize Upload feature can copy exactly the same structure of the local folders to the server (also called “mirroring”). The Synchronize Upload feature allows you to specify files or folders not to transfer, and files or folder not to delete. Of course, multiple thread feature can transfer multiple files at once to increase the speed of the synchronization.
External Tools
You can launch your favorite external tools from within EmFTP via toolbar buttons or keyboard shortcuts. By using this feature, selected local or server files can be opened with a defined external tool. You can customize an external tool so that if you open a server file with the external tool, EmFTP will download the file to a local temporary directory, and it can automatically upload the modified file when you modify the file.
Drag and Drop
You can drag and drop selected files between the local pane and the server pane. You can also drag files from Explorer and drop on EmFTP to transfer to the server. By dragging and dropping within the server, you can copy and move files within the server.
Highest Quality Features
While EmFTP is a small, fast application, its reliability and capabilities are of the highest quality. It contains basic functionalities like creating new folders, deleting files and folders. It can change file permissions. It allows you to set a port number, a passive mode and a command to keep alive for each connection. It allows you to set the time zone for the server to show the modified time in the local time. It can transfer files by ASCII mode or binary mode according to file extensions. It allows you to specify local and server initial folders. It allows you to use last used folders, or move folders synchronously. It displays the progress and errors in the Progress dialog box.
Windows Vista Ready!
EmFTP is now Windows Vista ready! EmFTP is aware of the new security feature called the User Account Control in Windows Vista, and allows you to run usually with least privileges environment. A few administrative settings are clearly distinguished.
